This happens during the ‘Start Your Day Offline’ Experience:

  • A week long, you’ll get to experience what happens when you spend your first waking hour of the day without your phone.
  • Learn more about the tricks that companies such as Meta use to tempt you to pick up your phone again.
  • AND which tools already can be found on your phone to prevent you from picking it up every time. Not lowering the threshold, but raising it!

This Experience isn’t about right or wrong. It’s about discovering what happens when you consciously choose to not use your phone.

Why are we going offline at the start of the day?

Because every day, you wake up with a fresh batch of decision power. Think about it: when are you best able to resist temptations? At the start of the day when you get up with the best intentions or later on the day, when you’re geting tired and pick the easiest choices, because you don’t have the energy for more?

Start your day with picking yourself over the companies that make their money through your scrolling.

Extra! This Experience includes an Inspiration Bank filled with inspiration to start your day in a positive, happy way. Including tips to lower the threshold to actually do these things.

This is how the Experience works:

  • On Friday June 13, you’ll receive an email from me to help you prepare for the week.
  • In this email, you’ll find a video from me, in which I’m taking you through the process of preparing. Step by step towards success.
  • From Saturday June 14, you’ll receive an email from me every evening around 19.00 o’clock (CEST) for 7 days.
  • In these emails I help you to make the decision to be offline the next morning. I share my tips, experiences, my own ways to start the day and add a big dose of motivation for you.
  • From Sunday June 15 until Saturday June 21 you’ll start the day offline (just like me!). The first waking hour of your day you spend on something for yourself. Time to enjoy!
  • Are you struggling with something or just need a chat? Send me a message! I’m there to support you personally. Through ups and downs.

After this week, you can count on:

  • More control over your phone usage
  • A conscious start of your day
  • Having less urge to pick up your phone ‘just for a moment,’ but being able to wait until later.

Am I not allowed to be online at all?

First of all, the ‘Start Your Day Offline’ is an experience. That means (as far as I’m concerned) that you get to focus on experiencing what happens when you choose to not pick up your phone during the first waking hour of the day. I’m not forbidding you anything, but I am challenging you. ‘What if..’ you would give it a chance to not be online?

Why are we offline for a whole hour?

The first waking hour of our day are we offline. We try an hour to get the chance to enjoy our offline time (or deal with the frustrations :)). Especially if you decide to spend the time in the morning to do something extra or fun for yourself, it’s nice to have a reason to do so. A former participant once said: “It’s easier to do it this way. When I struggle, I just think to myself: ‘Marlies says I should stay offline,’ and I do that!”

What should I do instead of scrolling?

Enjoy! You get to decide yourself how you want to spend your time. Maybe you want to read for 15 minutes, go for a short walk, draw for a few minutes, start a new hobby or just simply take the time to breakfast or drink a cup of coffee/tea.

No idea what to do? Make sure to check Marlies’ video in the email from June 13. Together we make sure you have a ton of inspiration and a plan.

How does the ‘Start Your Day Offline’ Experience work?

  • After you bought the Experience, you’ll receive an email from me. In this email you’ll find more information about the preparation and the link to the Inspiration Bank.
  • In a video I take you through an awesome preparation on the 7-day Experience. Discover more about how to let your phone be and decide how to spend your time instead of scrolling.
  • From Saturday June 14 you’ll receive emails from me every evening for the whole week. These mails are filled with inspiration, tips, and motivation for the next morning. From Sunday June 15 until Saturday June 21 you spend the first waking hour of your day without your phone.
  • At the end of the week you keep another month’s access to the Inspiration Bank and will we reflect on the Experience together. What did you experience, what would you like to keep up with and what do you want to let go when it comes to how you use your phone?

Can I do the ‘Start Your Day Offline’ Experience with me kid(s) and/or partner?

Definitely! I would actually recommend to do an Experience like this with your housemates. That works as an extra reason to do well. Make sure you prepare well: check the video together and read every email together. That immediately gives more motivation and accountability to persevere during the difficult moments. And maybe you can even agree on something that the person who uses their phone the most should do as a ‘punishment’… maybe do the laundry for the entire month? 😉

What if I miss a day?

It is and remains an experience. We are going to discover what happens when you don’t use your phone for the first waking hour of every day and are offline. Can’t make it through one day? Don’t worry! Use that day as information: what made it not work? What could you do differently or would you like to do differently next time? That’s valuable information for changes in the long run.

Do I need any materials or items?

In principle, you don’t need anything extra to participate in the ‘Start Your Day Offline’ Experience. It can be useful to put the alternatives to using your phone in sight.

  • Do you want to read for fifteen minutes in the morning from now on? Find a book and have it ready before the experience week starts.
  • Do you want to prepare an extensive meal? Look up the recipes and buy the ingredients beforehand.
  • Are you going to exercise first thing in the morning? Get your sports gear ready and in sight when dressing in the morning.
  • Are you going to have a quiet and shared breakfast? Clear the dining table the night before so that you can easily set the table (or set the table the night before).

In the Inspiration Bank that is included with the Experience, you will find inspiration for activities with and without extra materials or items.

How can I participate in the Offline Experience?
